About

Buxton has some amazing independent shops and venues and this brings an opportunity to nurture and build on this success. Introducing new homes, leisure and hospitality venues will be key to attracting more people into the town centre to support its future growth.

Just like many towns up and down the country, Buxton has been impacted by the trend towards online shopping. The number of shops closing has increased which makes it even more important that the town adapts to reflect our new shopping, working and leisure routines.

Why do high streets need to adapt?

It is important to strengthen the resilience of the town centre to help all of our traders and to continue to attract people into Buxton. This means looking at new uses to revitalise The Springs and surrounding area – maybe introducing new workspace, commercial, leisure or food and drink venues and new homes including affordable housing.

What will the project deliver?

The investment will breathe new life into the town centre by introducing leisure, hospitality and new homes along with improvements to the public space around The Springs. This will help the town to attract more people during the day and evening and develop the surrounding area to reflect changes to work and leisure habits.
